I have the esteem to officially welcome you to the up-skilling Graduation Ceremony here at Boma International Hospitality College (BIHC).

Our presence here marks a shared commitment to the continuous growth, sustainability, and development of the tourism sector in Kenya.

As a training, research and consultancy hub, BIHC has over the last decade sought to forge strategic partnerships that enhance skill development not just at undergraduate level but equally targeting talent that has forged careers in the tourism and hospitality fields.

This initiative by the Tourism Fund (TF) and the Tourism Training Revolving Fund (TTRF) marks a pivotal step toward collaborative training and up-skilling initiatives that showcase the impact of government and private sector partnerships.

The Tourism Fund has long been a pillar of support in enhancing the capabilities and skills within our industry.

Dr Abbas Gullet, Director BIHC

Today, through this program, we address a critical need- bridging the practical skills gap within our hospitality industry.

We recognize that many of our workers, who tirelessly contribute to the vibrancy and success of our tourism sector, have never had the opportunity to receive formal training.

This program is a testament to our commitment to providing these invaluable individuals with the capacity-building opportunities they rightfully deserve.

I truly applaud Messers Some and David and the entire team at TF for seeking to actively bridge this gap.

Our programs are designed not just to impart knowledge, but equally inspire transformation and build a culture of lifelong learning.

Over the last two weeks, participants had the opportunity to engage in a curriculum that covers a wide spectrum of hospitality skills, from customer service excellence to modern culinary techniques, and from sustainable tourism practices that can easily be adapted to advanced supervisory strategies.

This comprehensive approach ensures that our graduates will emerge not only with new skills but with a renewed sense of purpose and pride as they execute their mandate within the industry.

It is with this basis that we recently sought and earned our certification as an assessment centre under the recognition of prior learning framework by Kenya National Qualification Authority (KNQA) and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Authority.

Under this framework, our graduates here today, can further be assessed and certified for any knowledge, skills and competencies acquired in non-formal or informal learning experiences such as work against prescribed standards or learning outcomes.

Such access will enhance their mobility, personal development, entry into further learning opportunities, advancement in the workplace and credit awards to a qualification of their choice.

I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to the Board of Trustees of TF for their unwavering support and vision.

It is their foresight and dedication that make initiatives like this possible. Together, we are investing in the most valuable asset of our tourism sector- our people.

To our esteemed graduates, congratulations on achieving this significant milestone.

The knowledge and skills you have acquired here will not only enhance your personal growth but will contribute significantly to the collective advancement of our industry.

You are not only industry leaders, but innovators, disruptors and the custodians of Kenya’s rich tourism heritage.

May your journey ahead be filled with endless possibilities, remarkable achievements, and a legacy that elevates the world of hospitality to new heights.

Go forth and continue to spread the warmth of hospitality wherever you may roam.

BIHC is constantly seeking to work together, learn together and strive together towards a brighter, more sustainable future for our tourism and hospitality industries.

I am confident that with the support of TF and the dedication of each of the significant players, we will achieve remarkable milestones.

Thank you.
